Ms. LaBauve, a Class A LPGA Teaching and Club Professional, created the national program for girls to learn the game while strengthening the camaraderie among peers in a fun and supportive environment. To date, there are nearly 200 sites across the United States with approximately 6,000 girls enrolled. This program is administered through a partnership between the LPGA and the USGA, both non-profit charitable organizations.
Each Girls Golf site is coordinated by various professional golf associations, volunteers, moms or dads. Each program is funded through local fund raising efforts, membership dues, event fees, and donations from the community. These monies cover the cost of course access, fees, snacks, special events, instruction and miscellaneous expenses for each participant.
In January 2002, the LPGA with the USGA, launched a cooperative effort through an expanded partnership to promote involvement of girls and the game of golf. These girls are provided with an opportunity to make lasting friendships, gain self-confidence, learn to compete and have fun learning the game.
